MY WHINEY VALENTINE

I went to see My Bloody Valentine perform their second of two sold out shows here in LA.  This was the first time I've ever seen them, and of course it was awesome.  At the end, they did their wall of sound aural attack during " You made me realize," which seemed to divide the crowd in half,  between the real fans, and the people that were more concerned with getting out of the parking lot before the other guy.  The kind of person who leaves a baseball game early when it could still go either way.  They basically play all their instruments as hard as they can for 20 minutes straight at the highest volume legally agreed to in their contracts, only to dive back seamlessly into a final chorus and end of the song out of nowhere.  For a band who plays moody shoegaze tunes, this is by far their best way of saying "fuck you we are still awesome, "  It made me think of a Silver Mt. Zion song called " This is our punk rock, " My Bloody Valentine's way of being punk rock.  It made me happy to see this happening in 2008 still,  go figure it was from a band of people approaching their 50's.
